Risers fail from the trailing edge, never from the photograph.
A quarry stair does not crumble in the middle first. The nosing rounds, grit hold dies, and the tread still looks busy while the heel already scoops. Wedge soles fail the same way on St George Blvd.
We dust a thin chalk line across the sole and read where the chalk refuses to sit. That pale band is the collapsed nosing. Bloomington mornings accelerate it because grit sits in the heel overnight and the first bunker of the day files it round.
